The Importance in Volunteering

Posted by Jason Kelly on May 1, 2010

So overall the last couple of days have been okay. I seem to be getting better with this new medication that Im on (Abilify), and Im starting to try and get back into a regular routine. I have an appointment on Monday, so hopfeully that goes well.

What I have found over the last couple of weeks is the importance in volunteering in life. In order to keep myself busy I have been looking around differnet NGO’s looking for help. Ive basically split my volunteering into ones that deal with career experience (being able to gain experience while helping others) and ones that Im just interested in. For example, I have applied to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity which is great considering the experience I already have with the organization. This includes cash and personalle, and hopefully a couple of builds this year. They have two new houses being built in Oakville, near by so hopefully Ill be able to volunteer for those. Wither than Habitat for Humanity, I would mind being a big brother, but thats being saved for when things get better in life.

Work related experience breaks into volunteering at the local television cable company, which is great because my degree is in communications and I think Ill get a lot out of it. So Im crossing my fingers for this one. Another includes an arts and community NGO that I might be transcribing interviews for them. Again, crossing my finders for this one as well.

So hopefully Ill be up and running around pretty soon. Keeping myself busy by volunteering as well as signing up for classes at the local college (Adobe photoshop class next week).

All I can do is take one step at a time and get my life together. One day everything will fall into place. Thats all for now.
